As European regulators continue to tighten safety requirements for batteries used in electric mobility devices, Baichen has leveraged its flexible engineering capabilities to help the UK‑based wheelchair brand S***e achieve a clear product differentiation in the marketplace.

The founder of S***e had firmly ruled out mainstream ternary lithium batteries from the very start. Given that the brand’s end‑users are predominantly elderly people living alone, concerns about thermal runaway were a top priority. The client insisted on a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) solution, which offers superior thermal stability. However, most manufacturers declined the request, pointing to extended development timelines and the complexities involved in reconfiguring their supply chains.

Baichen took a different approach. Upon receiving the inquiry, the team moved quickly to adapt a LiFePO₄ battery pack to the wheelchair’s specifications. In addition to the hardware integration, Baichen supplied the client with comprehensive cycle‑life test reports and charge/discharge safety documentation. The first production run of 50 electric wheelchairs equipped with these batteries has already been launched in the UK. Early user feedback indicates consistent range performance and excellent temperature control, with no complaints related to overheating.

As European buyers increasingly prioritise battery safety, Baichen offers tailored, non‑standard battery configurations that allow its clients to stand out in a crowded field.
